The registration for the 2016 Genghis Khan MTB Adventure and the Grassland Marathon has been opened. Next year the 10th anniversary of the event will take place in Xiwuqi from 1 to 3 July. Sign up quickly to score the early bird rate, but also to ensure a place at all as our event was sold out the past three years.
The format of the anniversary event will remain largely the same, although a number of additional activities may be added to the long weekend programme. For mountainbikers, there is the traditional 3-day stage race over a distance that exceeds 200km in total. After four successful years, the design of the three stages may undergo quite some changes next year in order to keep things fresh and exciting for all those bikers who return to Xiwuqi year after year. More technical details on the race courses will become available at the latest after the winter period.
The Grassland Marathon again takes place on Saturday morning with start at 7 a.m. and should follow the established and universally praised course of the past three years. The same holds for the half marathon and the 11k run.
And of course there is also again the battle for the crown of King of the Grasslands. If you like to run the marathon, and do the 3 long distance stages of mountainbiking as well then the KOG competition is for you. Do not underestimate the difficulty of this challenge, although the finishing quote this year was remarkably higher than the first two years. Clearly, participants are getting better prepared mentally, but as this year’s King and experienced adventure athlete, Charlie Epperson, said afterwards “it was the toughest race I’ve ever done”.
The Organisation Committee has also taken note of participants’ feedback from this year’s edition, and will act accordingly on the items that can be improved. Due to local Xiwuqi regulations, we cannot yet accept bookings for hotels now. We will add this feature on the online registration form in spring 2016. Please therefore keep and take note of your password when you sign up for the race.
