MILL VALLEY, CALIFORNIA – November 26, 2013 – WTB announced today that it will continue to be the Official Sponsor of the Genghis Khan MTB Adventure & Grassland Extreme Marathon taking place July 4 – 6, 2014 in Xiwuqi, a small town in the northern portion of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. This marks WTB’s third year partnering with Nordic Ways Management Consulting, the Beijing-based company responsible for hosting and organizing the event.
The Genghis Khan MTB Adventure opens with an individual time trial that is followed by 3 stages, totaling 200 km of racing over a remote landscape composed of clay and sandy hard pack terrain. Daniel Carruthers, WTB’s Asia-Pacific PR and Marketing representative elaborated further on the event: “The Genghis Khan MTB Adventure is not technically challenging as you ride across the vast grasslands, where Genghis Khan himself once reigned supreme, enjoying wide open four-wheel drive tracks and bumpy grassland sheep trails.” Carruthers stated, “It is a perfection introduction to multi-stage MTB racing with its three-stage format.”
WTB sees the Genghis Khan MTB Adventure as a perfect compliment Chinese mountain bike racing as it becomes increasingly sophisticated, “WTB sees the Genghis Kahn MTB Adventure as an iconic event and a place to showcase WTB product, especially TCS (Tubeless Compatible System) that eliminates flat tires for racers.”
Henry Chen, General Manager of WTB China, also commented on Genghis Khan MTB Adventure, “The growth of the Genghis Khan MTB Adventure really impressed us. We hope to expand our brand influence through working together. Having been in mountain biking from the beginning, WTB has a strong history of product innovation and the GKF allows WTB to showcase our current product line, particularly TCS, to our new customer base in China and the Asia-Pacific region.”
The Genghis Khan MTB Adventure & Grassland Extreme Marathon first began in 2007 and has averaged an international representation of over 30 countries each year. 2014 marks the eighth year and the event will begin July 4th, 2014 next year.
Founded in 1982, WTB was formed in the birthplace of mountain biking to design better bicycle products. Renowned for saddles, tires, rims, and grips, this rider-driven company continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible through an unrelenting spirit of innovation and passion for two-wheeled adventure. From the beginning.
WTB’s proprietary sealant tubeless system, TCS (Tubeless Compatible System,) revolutionized rims and tires in 2009 when combining ETRTO, ISO, and UST standards with light tubeless rotational weights. Never before had a standards-based tubeless system weighed so little. Certified as the first sealant-based tires for the UST system in 2012 by Mavic, TCS continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible through purpose-built tires and rims tailor-made for every discipline of cycling.
